About

I’m Rozan Hamilton-Nixon, the designer behind Hamilton Rose Design. I create hand-drawn surface pattern designs for interiors, specialising in wallpaper, homeware, and decorative accessories. My work is developed through sketching, painting, and hands-on making, and is strongly influenced by the surface patterns I explore in my hand-built ceramic practice.

I am an interior designer with over fifteen years’ experience, primarily in bespoke exhibition design, alongside teaching interior design. While I enjoyed the creative challenge of designing large-scale spaces, I was increasingly drawn to more tactile ways of working. In 2024, I began working with ceramics and quickly became absorbed in hand-building and surface decoration. Techniques such as carving, sgraffito, wax resist, and paper masking became a starting point for many of my patterns, which often begin as marks made directly into clay before being translated into repeat designs.

Originally from South Africa, my work is inspired by the indigenous plant life of the Eastern and Western Cape. Summers spent camping, walking coastal paths, and hiking through these landscapes continue to inform my approach, alongside an ongoing habit of observing plants and natural details wherever I am.

All designs are created by hand in my studio in South East London and are printed or made to order in the UK, supporting small-scale production and reducing waste. My aim is to create thoughtfully crafted patterns rooted in nature, designed to bring warmth, detail, and a quiet sense of connection into interior spaces.
